
Every time I think I’ve calmed down about the current state of affairs, I think of Pauline Hanson and the ear steam comes wafting out again.
The Hypocrisy
Aside from the fact that One Nation are a walking, talking, steaming pile of racist waste, did you know that Pauline Hanson was once married to a refugee? Yep, his name was Walter Zagorski, and he was from Poland. They had a shotgun wedding when Hanson was 16 after she found out she was pregnant. Lucky for her, the Nauru detention centre wasn’t a thing back in 1971. Anyway, they split a few years later because of his infidelity.
As many a bumper sticker once said, “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned.” And what could be more furious than the One Nation Party?
Democracy in Colour
I’ve already given to much airplay to the shrillest voice in politics, so let’s get to the real reason we’re here today. It’s to talk about anti-racism organisation Democracy in Colour, and its founder, Tim Lo Surdo. The new movement is a response to the steady increase in support for racists like Pauline Hanson and Donald Trump, and their discriminatory policies.
Tim wants to give voice to the minorities in Australia who feel powerless and persecuted, using technology and distributed organising to tackle racism.
The movement works in three ways:
