The people’s champion, beloved and slightly retired comedian Dave Chappelle hosted Saturday Night Live this weekend, days after Donald Trump became president-elect of the United States.
It’s a scary, divisive time in America right now. There’s been a dramatic spike in hate crimes, vile racist graffiti and people being confronted in the streets by idiots saying, ‘Trump won. Time to get out of the country.’
Chappelle’s opening monologue is a helpful counterpoint.
He relates the story of visiting the White House recently for a BET party hosted by the Obama administration. Everyone there was black, aside from Bradley Cooper, “For some reason.”
Looking around and seeing how happy everyone was, a group of historically disenfranchised people, made him feel hopeful and proud to be an American.
So on that note, Dave commits to giving Donald Trump a chance. Provided that he gives the historically disenfranchised a chance too.
