June 5, 2017 Ronaldo scores twice to win Champions League

Real Madrid achieved a lot of things this season. For the first time in 57 years, they stand as champions of both Spain and Europe.

Last night, as a well rested Cristiano Ronaldo helped himself to two goals in a 4-1 win over Italian champions Juventus, Real Madrid became the first club to defend as European champions since AC Milan in 1989-90.

There’s now a chance to gun for a ridiculous ‘Never Been Done’ threepeat in the Champions League!

They have 12 Champions League titles, next best is AC Milan with seven. All time great player Zinedine Zidane has won two Champions Leagues and a Spanish league title in his first two seasons as manager.

Ronaldo’s 42 goals for the season, including two in the Champions League final, have him back in the frame for the greatest ever player debate. He was on fire against Juventus, sharply finishing with his first touch.

We can feel bad for Juventus, having now lost seven of their nine trips to the European final. They did enjoy one moment of brilliance, when Mario Mandzukic equalised at 1-1 with this incredible over the head finish.

Hopefully this will keep the Italian fans warm through the offseason.

Until then, I suspect the Real Madrid fans are feeling just a little bit better about things.
