August 10, 2016 Japan beats New Zealand in rugby sevens

And nothing ever made sense again.

In the upset of the Olympics to date, Japan has overcome a team with Sonny Bill Williams in it. Unfortunately, he left the field injured with 5 minutes left in the match.

With just two tries in the first half, including an incredible piece of wing play from New Zealand, the teams went in 7-7 at halftime.

Akira Ioane shrugged off defenders and leapt to the line to put the Kiwis up 12-7, but Japan came down field and tied it up with a late try from Kameli Soejima.

Katsuyuki Sakai was calm under pressure to convert brilliantly from 38 metres, claiming a sensational 14-12 win.

In other news, Australia were roundly defeated by France in their opening game.
