The first photos of Oscar-winner Alicia Vikander (Ex-Machina, The Danish Girl) as the iconic video game action heroine Lara Croft have been exclusively released by Vanity Fair this week.
The article also revealed more of the backstory for the new incarnation of Croft, who was last portrayed onscreen in the commercially successful Tomb Raider films by Angelina Jolie.
This adaptation will follow a 21-year-old Lara, now a student after refusing to take on her father’s empire after his disappearance seven years ago. Becoming intrigued with her father’s disappearance, she sets off an adventure to his last known location – a tomb on an island located somewhere off the coast of Japan.
Tomb Raider began principal photography in January of this year, and is directed by Roar Uthaug (The Wave) and co-stars Dominic West (Chicago, The Wire), Walton Goggins (The Shield, Justified) and Daniel Wu (Into the Badlands, That Demon Within).
It is set to be release via Warner Bros / Village Roadshow on March 16, 2018.
